Northorpe: what to know before moving day
Northorpe Hall, a 17th-century stone house with three gabled bays, and its former aisled barn are both Grade II listed. So are Northorpe Croft, dated 1701, and Balderstone Hall, possibly of 1690, whose garden wall has 18th-century gate piers topped with ball finials. Balderstone Hall Lane runs past them.
Northorpe had a station on Shillbank Lane. After a grass fire destroyed it in 1921 it was replaced by Northorpe Higher, built from the old station buildings at Gildersome East, and passenger trains stopped in 1953. The Plough is on Shillbank Lane, Mirfield Parish Cavaliers play cricket on Wellhouse Lane, and St Mary the Virgin church and Castle Hall Academy are close by. Later housing lines Hepworth Drive, Sykes Avenue, Shillbank Avenue and Eastfield Road.
How the van gets to Northorpe
OSRM turns off Huddersfield Road (A644) at Doctor Lane and takes Flash Lane to Shillbank Lane, roughly 25 to 35 minutes from Bradford by way of the M606 and M62. Dunbottle Lane and Crossley Lane are the other roads through Northorpe, and Shillbank Lane carries on east towards Ravensthorpe.
