Blake Hall: what to know before moving day
Anne Brontë worked for Mrs Ingham at Blake Hall from April to December 1839, and the Ingham children's behaviour found its way into her first novel, Agnes Grey. William Bairstow Ingham was born at the hall in 1850, and in 1872 Ellen Nussey suggested it as the model for Grassdale Manor in The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. Street names keep the link: Bronte Way, Bronte Grove, Ingham Close, Ingham Croft and Ingham Garth.
