Shepley Bridge: what to know before moving day
The waterway here goes back to the 1770s: a new cut between Shepley Bridge and Mirfield was begun in December 1775 under William Jessop, and the Grade II double lock at Shepley Bridge, from about 1776, has three pairs of gates. The single-storey cottage by the lock was probably the lock keeper's house. Shepley Bridge Marina, Ladywood Lakes and Lady Wood line the water, and the Calder Valley Greenway cycle path passes through.

John Cotton Group's works at Nunbrook Mills and the Ravensthorpe Industrial Estate off Low Mill Lane are near the houses on Fir Avenue, Fir Grove, Fir Parade, Crescent Avenue and The Crescent, and Bronte Way and Ingham Close lie to the west. Low Mill Lane Bridge, a low stone arch over the navigation from around 1769, is Grade II listed. The Bulls Head and the fuel stations on Huddersfield Road are easy points to name for the driver.
How the van gets to Shepley Bridge
After the M62, stay on the A644 all the way through Mirfield; Shepley Bridge comes at the Ravensthorpe end, roughly 25 to 35 minutes from Bradford overall. Church Lane and Steanard Lane are the nearby turns for the streets north of the main road, and Low Mill Lane serves the industrial estate.
