Mixenden: what to know before moving day
Tower blocks were built in Mixenden in the 1970s, and the area has since seen a good deal of regeneration work. Around the centre, Stanningley Road, Stanningley Drive and Stanningley Avenue, Woodbrook Road with its closes, Ash Tree Road and Ash Tree Gardens, Clough Bank and Sunny Bank Road make up the housing, with Jumples and Jumples Close further out. For a flat in a block, tell us the floor and whether there is a lift that takes furniture.
The centre has a library, a council-funded activity centre, the Caritas Group Practice doctors' surgery and a handful of shops and takeaways. Ash Green Community Primary School is split across an upper and a lower site, Holy Nativity is the Anglican church, and there is a crown green bowls club at Mixenden Park. Mixenden Hall, a listed mid-18th-century stone house with a five-bay front, stands a little way out.
How the van gets to Mixenden
Mixenden Road is the main road through. Towards Halifax it continues as Crag Lane and Denfield Lane to Ovenden Way, and in the other direction Jumples, Straight Lane and Raw Lane lead to the A629 Keighley Road, which runs between Halifax and Keighley through Illingworth. From Bradford, the van can join the A629 north of Mixenden or come in through Halifax and Ovenden.
