Lee Mount: what to know before moving day
The streets here come in tight grids with names borrowed from explorers and faraway places: Livingstone Street, Melbourne Street, Columbus Street, Peabody Street and Lentilfield Street, most of them mapped at 20 mph, with Lee Mount Road and Lee Mount Gardens at the centre. On Friendly Fold Road, numbers 4 and 6 are a pair of stone houses dated 1709, listed Grade II, with an inscribed lintel and a former sundial. The Friendly Inn stands just to the north.
Shroggs Park lies to the south-west, and its elaborate Gothic drinking fountain, with four basins fed by dolphins under a vaulted canopy, is also Grade II listed. Lee Mount Academy is beside the park, St George's Church is to the south, and a memorial to Percy Shaw, who came up with cat's eyes on the A647 at Boothtown, is to the north-east. On a narrow terraced street, check whether the van can stop outside or should wait at the end, and tell us which.
How the van gets to Lee Mount
The A629 Ovenden Road runs along the eastern edge, a 40 mph stretch here, with Lee Bank leaving it to the south-east. Shroggs Road and Hebble Lane come in from the west and Wheatley. From Bradford the A647 comes over Queensbury and through Boothtown, where Old Lane runs from the lower end of Boothtown to the Lee Mount side.
