Moving in Lane Head (Bingley): what to know first
Lane Head is a handful of houses and old farms strung along Otley Road where Eldwick gives way to the moor. Past the houses the road runs at 40 mph with no pavement, and beyond them it opens out to 50 mph along the moor edge, so the van should not stand in the carriageway to load. If your house has a yard or gateway off the road, send a photo of it and the van can pull in there.
The tracks behind the houses are not for vans. Tewitt Lane is a bridleway closed to motor vehicles, Longcroft Lane is a footpath track and Stead Lane a grass bridleway, so a house reached only by one of them means a carry from Otley Road; say how far it is when you book. Sanctuary Way is the one ordinary residential road here. Eldwick Hall and Cragg Wood Farmhouse are 17th-century, so measure doorways and stairs before moving anything large.
Lane Head (Bingley): the local picture
The buildings are old moor-edge farms. Eldwick Hall of 1696 is set back with its own listed garden walls, gate piers and ball finials; Cragg Wood Farmhouse is late 17th century with a projecting cross-wing; and Moorland Grange Farmhouse, early 18th century, was only raised from one storey to two in the 20th. Crag Top is the small group of houses by the road, and Sanctuary Way is a short residential road off it.
Beyond the houses the lanes turn into tracks: Tewitt Lane is a bridleway track, Longcroft Lane a footpath track and Stead Lane a grass bridleway. A farmhouse reached by one of them needs a word about the surface before the day. Eldwick Beck and the Compensation Reservoir are a few hundred metres below.
How the van gets to Lane Head (Bingley)
Warren Lane brings the van up from Gilstead to Otley Road, which then runs north-east through Eldwick, past the beck, for about a kilometre and a half to the Cragg Wood Farm bus stop at Lane Head. That last part has a 40 mph limit and no footway, so a van loading at the roadside needs a safe place to pull in.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 20 to 35 minutes. That is an estimate, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Frequently asked questions: man with a van in Lane Head (Bingley)
Other places are called Lane Head too. What makes sure the van comes here?
The BD16 3 postcode and the words Otley Road, Eldwick. This Lane Head is on the moor edge above Bingley, in the Bingley East ward; others share the name, including one near Holmfirth, and the postcode keeps the driver off them.
Can the van drive up Tewitt Lane?
No. Tewitt Lane, also known as Mill Lane, is a public bridleway with motor vehicles not allowed, so the van stays on Otley Road or in your own gateway and the furniture is carried from there. Tell us how far the walk is from the road to the door.
Does the van come to Lane Head through Eldwick or over from Baildon?
It can come either way. From Bingley the van climbs through Eldwick on Otley Road itself; from Shipley or Baildon it comes over the top on Hawksworth Road, Glovershaw Lane and Spring Lane, which bring it out on Otley Road a short way from the houses.
