Hainworth: what to know before moving day
The hamlet is small and old. Hainworth appears in the Domesday Book, and its listed buildings include Hainworth Farmhouse, dated 1783, a pair of 18th-century stone cottages at 13 and 14 Hainworth, and a 1935 K6 telephone kiosk. Much of the cloth woven here once went down Hainworth Lane to Ingrow, which is why that lane was built wide and setted; patches of setts still show between the tarmac. The Wesleyan chapel closed in 1977.
Around the houses are fields with their old names on the map, such as Low Croft, Pease Croft and Far Field, and Nether House Farm and Goff Well Farm sit close by. Ingrow Cricket Club plays on the pitch here, which also hosts the annual fun day. Hill Top Road is partly unsurfaced and Hainworth Road and Moor Bottom Lane are tracks, so for an address off the tarmac, say how far the door is from the lane.
