Moving in Haddingley: what to know first
Haddingley is farms and a handful of houses where four lanes meet. Haddingley Lane has a short terrace and detached houses such as Field House and Piper House, and Piper Wells Lane has larger detached houses, with St Marks Court, a small shared-surface close, near its foot. Most homes go by a house name, so give it with the postcode, and say whether the van can pull into a yard or a drive.
Piper Wells Lane is the usual way in from the A635: lit, with pavements, for the first stretch, then unlit and without a pavement up to the crossing. A loaded van manages the climb, but it should not stand on the slope, so plan to load on level ground at the house. Park Head Lane becomes a gravel track to the east, and Dearne Dike Lane and Haddingley Lane run off to the south, so for a farm down one of them send a note of the gate and the turning space.
Haddingley: the local picture
Farms give the place its shape. Middle Haddingley and Meadow Nook are the named farmyards, with fields such as Lancaster's Piece around them. Next door, and hard to miss, is Appleton Quarry, worked by Marshalls, with Appleton Works a little further along. Triford Motor Company is on Wall Nook Lane.
These are country lanes. Piper Wells Lane and Park Head Lane carry a 60 mph limit, Piper Wells Lane has no footway and climbs from the A635 at a signed gradient of 12 per cent, and Dearne Dike Lane joins close by. Cumberworth Lane, about 280 metres off, has a 30 mph limit. With so few house numbers, a farm or house name is the surest guide to the right gate.
How the van gets to Haddingley
Piper Wells Lane is the way in. It leaves the A635 Holmfirth Road close to Shepley Lane Head and runs south for about half a kilometre to the crossing at Haddingley. From Bradford the van comes down the A629 through Huddersfield and Shepley to Lane Head, then Cross Lane, a trip of roughly 35 to 50 minutes.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 35 to 50 minutes. That is an estimate, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Frequently asked questions: man with a van in Haddingley
Is it Piper Well Lane or Piper Wells Lane?
Piper Wells Lane. The street sign at the Holmfirth Road end reads Wells. The shorter spelling does turn up, but it means the same lane, the one climbing south from the A635.
Is Piper Wells Lane too steep for a loaded van?
The van manages it, but it is steep: signed at 12 per cent from the A635, and unlit above the lower stretch. Loading at the top is easiest where a yard or a drive gives level standing, so tell us what is outside your door.
Is Haddingley in Shepley's parish?
No. The homes on Piper Wells Lane and Haddingley Lane are in the Holme Valley parish and Holme Valley South ward, while postcodes a few hundred metres north, towards Lane Head, are in Kirkburton parish. Both use HD8.
