Moving in Flasby: what to know first
None of the lanes in Flasby has a name: the tarmac lanes are unlit roads with a 60 mph limit, and the farm drives off them turn to gravel or bare earth. Cattle grids cross the farm lanes to the east and west, so open pasture starts close by and stock can be on the road. Flasby Beck has a ford, but only on a footpath, so the van never has to cross water.
For a farmhouse move with outbuildings, list what is in the barns and sheds as well as the house, and say whether the yard is concrete or grass, because a soft yard after rain is where a loaded van gets stuck.
Flasby: the local picture
Flasby Hall, an Italianate house of the early 1840s by George Webster, much altered since, stands just outside the hamlet, and an Iron Age sword and scabbard, the Flasby Sword, was dug up in its grounds in 1848 and is now in Skipton's Craven Museum. In the park is Flasby Hall Tower, a round 17th-century dovecote later used as a summer house and now partly ruined. Freddie Trueman, the Yorkshire cricketer, made his home in the village.
The homes are mostly working or former farms. Grange Farmhouse, 18th century with a Tudor-arched lintel over its door, is right on the beck, and there are old field barns at Sleerans Lathe and New Laithe, with Bark Laithe Farm up on Bark Hill. Mickleber Hill, a textbook drumlin of the Skipton drumlin field, rises to the east. A farmhouse door with a stone lintel sets the height limit for a tall wardrobe, so check it with a tape.
How the van gets to Flasby
The tarmac lanes through Flasby have no names. The nearest named road is Eshton Road, the tertiary road north out of Gargrave, recorded with a 7.5-tonne limit, and the lanes run east from it to the hamlet. Gargrave is on the A65 west of Skipton; from Bradford the whole trip is estimated at roughly 40 to 50 minutes.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 40 to 50 minutes. That is an estimate, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Frequently asked questions: man with a van in Flasby
The lane to my house has no name. What should I tell the driver?
The house name and the full postcode, BD23 3PU or 3PX, plus any gate or cattle grid on the way in. A what3words reference or a dropped map pin for the yard also helps on unnamed lanes.
Winterburn is in the parish name. Is it next door?
A little over two kilometres up the valley to the north-west. The parish of Flasby with Winterburn covers both hamlets and the farms between, and it was a township of Gargrave's ancient parish until 1866.
Will the driver find my house by postcode alone?
Use BD23 3PU or 3PX with the house name. With no street names on the lanes, a postcode alone may stop short of the right gate, so mention Flasby Hall or Grange Farm as a marker if you are near either.
