Draughton: what to know before moving day
Low Lane is the main street and runs roughly north to south, with a small stream just to the east. The A65 marks the bottom of the houses: its one-mile Draughton bypass was opened in December 1991, so through traffic keeps to the bypass. St Augustine's Church is in the village, and the village post office closed in 2008.
The parish is much bigger than the village. It takes in Chelker Reservoir, Draughton moor to the south, the ancient woods of Lob Wood and Eller Carr Wood, and Bolton Abbey station on the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway. The listed buildings include an 18th century farmhouse, a lime kiln, a house of about 1810 and the Flat Bridge of about 1800, which takes the B6160 over a stream. The A59 runs just outside the northern boundary, and the Yorkshire Dales National Park lies to the north.
How the van gets to Draughton
The A65 is the road in, and it passes the village on its way between Addingham and Skipton. From Bradford one way is up the A650 to Keighley and the A629 to Skipton, then east on the A65; the other comes along the A65 from the Ilkley side through the Addingham bypass. The station is inside Draughton parish, although it is named after Bolton Abbey. It is a heritage steam railway stop, so a house move to either place still goes by road on the A65, A59 or B6160.
