Wrose: what to know before moving day
Much of Wrose went up quickly in the 1930s, when many houses dating from the time of Charles II were pulled down for new semi-detached homes. Wrose Road is the spine: along it are the Co-op, Wrose Library, the post office, the Bold Privateer and the Wrose Bull, and Low Ash Primary School. The estates branch off it on Oakdale Road, Thornacre Road, Low Ash Road and Snowden Road, with more streets beyond around Cotswold Avenue and Kingsway.
The village stands at around 180 metres, on a hillside overlooking the Aire valley and the Bradford valley. North-west of it are the old quarries around Carr Hill and the site of the Wrose Hill brickworks, which made bricks and sanitary tubes, and Bolton Woods Quarry nearby is still worked. Older stone survives in a few places, with listed buildings on Snowden Road and at Tudor Barn Court. With a 1930s semi, say whether the van can use the drive or should wait on the street, and send a photo of the stairs if a wardrobe is going up.
How the van gets to Wrose
From Bradford the van comes up to the far end of Wrose Road, where Gaisby Lane and Carr Lane meet it; Westfield Lane joins it nearer the middle and runs on towards Kingsway and Cotswold Avenue. Wrose Road is a 30 mph bus route with stops all the way along, so if a house sits right on it, a side road such as Oakdale Road or Wrose Mount may be the better place for the van to stop.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 10 to 20 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Why do some Wrose addresses say BD18 and others BD2?
Wrose straddles two postcode districts: BD18, which it shares with Shipley, and BD2 on the Bradford side. Postcodes.io puts BD18 1PB, on Wrose Road by the library, in the parish of Wrose and the Windhill and Wrose ward. Give the full postcode when you book so the driver heads for the right end of the hill.
Does Wrose have its own council?
It has a parish council, created in 2004, and it funded a blue plaque on Clara Road for the writer Malachi Whitaker in 2019. The main council is still the City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council, which runs the bins and collects council tax.
