Wibsey: what to know before moving day
Parts of Wibsey are much older than the rest of south Bradford. Chapel Fold has cottages from about 1635, one of them a former chapel that is now Grade II* listed, and the White Swan on the High Street is a rebuilt inn from the late 17th or early 18th century. Rows of sandstone cottages from around 1800 line Upper George Street, North Road, Tordoff Green and Folly Hill Road, several of them single storey. If you are moving out of one of these, low doorways and tight stairs are worth measuring before the day.
Most of the newer housing came after the 1881 act that enclosed Wibsey Slack and the Low Moor commons, which also created Wibsey Park. The Odsal council estate and the streets around St Paul's Avenue date from the 1920s and 1930s. Slackside and Slack Bottom Road keep the name of the old marshy ground.
Wibsey holds a horse fair every year on 5 October, and Fair Road has a funfair site that has been there for generations. A move on Fair Road around that date needs planning. Wibsey Library, the medical centre, St Winefride's church and the cenotaph are all handy points to give the driver.
How the van gets to Wibsey
The B6380 is the road through Wibsey: it climbs from Odsal Top as Odsal Road and Holroyd Hill, runs along the High Street, and carries on west as Fair Road and Beacon Road. From the city, the A641 Manchester Road reaches Odsal Top, where the B6380 turns off. St Enoch's Road, Moore Avenue and Wibsey Park Avenue are the other main roads mapped through the area.

Should I avoid moving on Wibsey Fair day?
The horse fair is held every year on 5 October, with the funfair site on Fair Road. If your move lands near that date and your street is near Fair Road, mention it when you book so the van's stop can be planned.
My house is on Chapel Fold. Is that a problem for the van?
Send the address and a photo of the approach. Chapel Fold is a group of 17th-century cottages, so the driver will want to know where the van can stand and how far the furniture has to be carried.
