Waterside (Colne): what to know before moving day
Colne grew in two parts: the town on top of the ridge, and Waterside at the bottom next to the river. By 1296 there was already a corn mill and a fulling mill down here. The listed Colne Waterside Bridge, an early 19th-century stone arch, carries Mill Green over Colne Water with a roadway of setts and a flagged path on one side, so check which side of the river your address is before booking.
Colne Lane is the old link up the hill; the town's market cross first stood where it meets Church Street. Below it are 20 mph streets such as Walton Street, Lune Street, Zion Street, Midgley Street, Essex Street and West Street, with Blucher Street marked as a living street, and West Street Community Primary School among them. Waterside Road runs out along the valley towards Birchenlee. Church Clough Brook also comes down to the river here.
How the van gets to Waterside (Colne)
The A56 runs along the ridge above as Church Street and Skipton Road, and Colne Lane and Lenches Road drop from it into Waterside. The van comes from Bradford by Keighley and the A6068, or by Skipton and the A56, into the east end of town. For a steep side street, say so when you book so the van can stop in the best place.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 40 to 55 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Because the town grew in two halves. The medieval market town sat on top of the ridge, and the mills, and the houses around them, were built at the bottom beside Colne Water, which is where Waterside is.
