Waterloo: what to know before moving day
Waterloo is built around a road junction: the A642 begins here, leaving the A629 for Lepton and Wakefield, while the A629 carries on as Penistone Road. Around it are independent shops, a large Morrisons with a petrol station, and the Gallagher Retail Park with Marks and Spencer, Home Bargains and Pets at Home. Huddersfield's rugby union club played at Waterloo until it moved to Lockwood Park in 1997, and firms such as Forteq have works here.
Behind the main roads the homes spread over Fernside Avenue, Greenside Avenue, Albany Road, Thistle Hill and Lower Hall Road, with a listed 18th or 19th-century terrace at 1 to 7 School Lane. A listed cast-iron milepost for the old Wakefield and Austerlands road stands in front of 24 Wakefield Road at Cowmes, the neighbourhood on the Lepton side, and Lascelles Hall, a late 18th-century house, is up Lascelles Hall Road.
How the van gets to Waterloo
From the town centre, the A629 Wakefield Road runs out through Moldgreen to Waterloo. At the junction the A642 continues as Wakefield Road towards Lepton, Penistone Road heads off south-east, and Waterloo Road leads north into Dalton. Lascelles Hall Road leaves the A642 a little further east.
