Showfield: what to know before moving day
The houses sit on short streets either side of East Avenue: Flasby Street, Ashleigh Street, Sefton Street and Sefton Place, Cark Road, Thorpe Street, Winterburn Street and Otterburn Street. Showfield Newsagents and the Muhammadi Masjid are right in the middle, and the Airedale railway line runs along the eastern edge, with Keighley Retail Park beyond it.
Cliffe Castle is the landmark everyone knows. The entrance to its drive, across Skipton Road from the Showfield streets, has a pointed stone arch between octagonal piers topped with embattled turrets, and the lodge, the house and the twin fountains in the grounds are all Grade II listed. The house began as Cliffe Hall between 1828 and 1833, was enlarged and renamed Cliffe Castle by Henry Isaac Butterfield, and opened as Keighley's museum in 1959. Its park, with a play area and a pavilion cafe, is the green space for the district.
How the van gets to Showfield
Skipton Road, the A629 here, is the way in from both directions. East Avenue leaves it and runs east through Showfield to Victoria Avenue and Lawkholme Lane, and from the town centre North Street carries straight on into Skipton Road. From Bradford, reaching Showfield up the Aire valley takes roughly 20 to 35 minutes. Say whether the house is on East Avenue itself or on one of the narrower side streets.
