Moving in Peckfield Bar: what to know first
Peckfield Bar is a roundabout with a few homes, farms and businesses round it, not a village street. Selby Road, the A63, and Ridge Road, the A656, meet there at 50 to 60 mph, so the van loads on your drive or in your yard and never on either road. Tell us which gate to use, how it opens and whether a long van can turn inside, or whether it is better reversed in.
Sandgate Lane, off Selby Road just west of the roundabout, starts as a lane and turns into an unmade track, so for an address along it say how far down you are. North of the roundabout, Ridge Road is closed at its railway bridge until 4 December 2026 while the bridge is rebuilt, so the van comes from Garforth along the A63 rather than up the A656 from junction 47 of the M1.
Peckfield Bar: the local picture
Both main roads carry 60 mph limits at the junction, so this is a place to plan where the van will stand. Sandgate Lane turns south off Selby Road a short way west of the roundabout, with Sandgate Boarding and Day Care, an animal boarding business, along it, and Peckfield Farm Produce sells from the farm on Selby Road. A little west towards Garforth are Strikes Garden Centre and Winfields Outdoors.
The Peckfield pit, sunk between 1872 and 1875, stood to the north-east, where the Pit Lane bridleway now leads towards the Peckfield landfill that covers its site. Westward, beside the garden centre, are Roach Hill and Roach Lime Hills, a nature reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest. On the east side of the A656, just south of the roundabout, a Grade II listed 19th-century milepost still reads "Hook Moor Branch Kippax" and "Barnsdale & Leeds Road", with distances to Boroughbridge, Doncaster, Wetherby and Pontefract.
How the van gets to Peckfield Bar
The A63 Selby Road is the way in: from junction 46 of the M1 it runs east past Garforth to the roundabout. The A656 north from junction 47 would normally be quicker, but Ridge Road is closed where it bridges the railway while the bridge is rebuilt, with a diversion by the A63 and the A642. The whole trip from Bradford takes roughly 35 to 50 minutes.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 35 to 50 minutes. That is an estimate, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Frequently asked questions: man with a van in Peckfield Bar
How long is Ridge Road shut at the railway bridge?
The Transpennine Route Upgrade gives the A656 Ridge Road closure as 2 March to 4 December 2026, while the bridge over the railway is replaced. Access to homes and businesses is kept open, and through traffic is sent round by the A63 and the A642, which is also how the van will come.
Is Peckfield Bar a village?
Not really. It is the junction of the A63 and the A656 with a few homes and businesses around it, in Kippax parish. Micklefield is the nearest village to the east and Garforth the nearest town to the west.
Where can the van load if I live on Selby Road?
On your own drive or yard. Selby Road is 60 mph at the roundabout, so a van cannot stand on it safely. Tell us how the gate opens and whether a long van can turn inside.
