Kippax: what to know before moving day
High Street, part of the B6137, is the shopping street, with independent butchers, grocers and newsagents beside a small Co-op. Where it meets Leeds Road and Cross Hills are The White Swan and the Wells community gardens, with Kippax Library and the community hub a few steps away. St Mary's Church still shows Saxon herringbone masonry in its tower.
Kippax stayed small and agricultural until the 19th century, when deeper mining and the coal found at Allerton Bywater turned it into a northern pit village. The streets show both stages: terraces such as Bickerdike Terrace and Hopewell Terrace, and later closes and crescents in the Pondfields, Hall Park, Greenfield and Moorgate groups. Today residents commute to Leeds, Castleford, Wakefield and York.
How the van gets to Kippax
The B6137 is the road to know. It leaves Garforth as Lidgett Lane, past Garforth Academy, and in Kippax it becomes Leeds Road, High Street and Longdike Lane. Brigshaw Lane leaves Station Road for Great Preston. The M1, the A1(M) and the M62 are all close, which is what turned Kippax into a commuter village.

Not any more. Kippax was annexed to Garforth in 1939 but regained its civil parish and parish council on 1 April 2004. It shares the LS25 postcode district with Garforth, but it is in the Kippax and Methley ward of Leeds, not Garforth's ward.
