Minskip: what to know before moving day
Minskip is an old name: it appears in the Domesday Book as Minescip, from an Old English word for a communal holding. It was a township of Aldborough parish, a civil parish of its own from 1866, and part of Boroughbridge since 1938. Minskip Lodge, a brick house of the late 18th or early 19th century with railings and a double gate, is listed.
The A6055 is Main Street and Harrogate Road through the village. The Wild Swan pub and St John's Church are on Main Street and the village hall is on Harrogate Road, which makes a clear set of landmarks. Minskip Road and Thorndikes Lane are the side roads.
How the van gets to Minskip
From Knaresborough the A6055 runs north-east through Ferrensby to Minskip, with a 30 mph limit in the village and 60 mph beyond. From Boroughbridge it is about a mile back along the same road, and the A1(M) is very close.
