Aldborough: what to know before moving day
Aldborough's Roman past is still on show: English Heritage runs the Aldborough Roman Site and its museum, with mosaic pavements, off Front Street, and part of the town walls can be seen. The Battle Cross, which marks the Battle of Boroughbridge of 1322, was moved to the village in 1852 and stands on Front Street, near the village hall.
The houses are mostly brick. Aldborough Hall, of about 1628, is Grade II*, and Aldborough Manor, Aldborough Lodge, the former Aldborough Dairy and Manor Cottage, which has a timber frame inside later brick, are all listed. St Andrew's Church, the oldest part from 1333, is Grade I, and the Ship Inn is a listed pub on Low Road. The stocks on the village green are listed too.
How the van gets to Aldborough
The B6265 York Road passes the village, and Front Street, Back Street, Chapel Hill and Low Road are the village streets. From Boroughbridge town centre the van leaves along the B6265 and turns in for Aldborough; from Knaresborough it first follows the A6055 to Boroughbridge.

Aldborough was once the main settlement, but the river crossing moved to Boroughbridge in Norman times. Its own civil parish was abolished in 1938 and merged into Boroughbridge, which is why the parish on YO51 9EX is Boroughbridge.
