Lower Denby: what to know before moving day
The village is small enough to describe road by road. The B6115, Lower Denby Lane, runs south from its junction with the A635, and the Dunkirk Inn stands right at that junction. Dry Hill Lane and Miller Hill run off close by, and Tenter House Court is a small group of homes beside Tenter House Farm. The farm's old farmhouse and barn both date from the 17th century and are Grade II listed; the barn still has a timber-framed core inside its stone walls.
Nos. 18, 20 and 22 Lower Denby Lane are one old house of the 17th or early 18th century, now divided and also listed. Zion Chapel and the houses at Exley Gate are about a quarter of a mile away, and the Penistone Line runs past the village. With listed stone buildings and a main-road junction in the middle, it helps to say whether your door is on the B6115 itself or up one of the side lanes.
How the van gets to Lower Denby
The A635 Barnsley Road is the way in: it runs from Shepley Lane Head, where it meets the A629 south of Huddersfield, through Denby Dale and on past Lower Denby towards Barnsley.
