Moving in Nether End: what to know first
Nether End is a few farmhouses, barns and houses either side of Barnsley Road, with Netherdale Court the only street of newer homes. Where a home has a farm yard or a drive, that is where the van loads, so tell us whether your gateway takes a long van and whether there is room to turn inside. Denby Hall Lane leads off to Denby Hall Farm, and Sim Royd Lane is partly a private track.
Barnsley Road has no pavement through the hamlet and a 50 mph limit, so nothing is carried along the road edge: the van pulls fully off, or uses Netherdale Court if your home is close to it. Denby Lane, the turning towards Lower Denby, is unlit with no pavement either, so on a winter date we plan to have the van loaded before dark and send you the arrival time the day before.
Nether End: the local picture
Few places this small hold so much 17th-century building. The barn at Nether End Farm is listed Grade II*: a cruck-framed barn of the 16th or early 17th century that was cased in stone in 1663, with a dated lintel and four complete cruck trusses still inside. Nether End Farmhouse is 17th century, refronted in the 18th, Manor House Farmhouse is a rendered L-shaped house of the same century, and the farmhouse at Nether End Nurseries keeps some of its timber mullions. All three are listed.
Netherdale Court is the one modern close, and Denby Lane leaves Barnsley Road nearby as an unlit country lane with no footway and a 60 mph limit. Flat Wood lies a little further off. Buses stop on Barnsley Road at Nether End in both directions. In a house of this age, doorways and stair turns are often the tightest points, so measure them against the largest pieces before moving day.
How the van gets to Nether End
The A635 runs past the door, with a 50 mph limit at the hamlet, so the van needs a safe place off the carriageway, such as a farm yard or a drive. The likely route from Bradford, roughly 40 to 55 minutes, uses the M62, the A629 to Kirkburton, the B6116 through Shelley, Shelley Woodhouse Lane and Cumberworth Lane into Denby Dale, then Miller Hill up to Barnsley Road.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 40 to 55 minutes. That is an estimate, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
