Lower Cumberworth: what to know before moving day
Several of the village's oldest homes are farmhouses. Withywood Hall is a 17th-century rendered stone house, Braggs Farmhouse is of the 17th or early 18th century, and Lane Hackings Farmhouse dates from the early to mid 19th century; all three are Grade II listed. At 4 and 6 Low Fold is a listed pair of weavers' back-to-back houses three storeys high, and in a three-storey house of that age it is worth measuring the stairs before a large bed or wardrobe is booked in.
Most other addresses are on Cumberworth Lane itself, on Top Road and Sycamore Green, and on the newer streets of Lane Hackings and Lane Hackings Green. The Foresters Arms and the Methodist church are in the village, and the cricket ground is home to Cumberworth United, who play in the Huddersfield Cricket League. Shelley Woodhouse Lane, Ponker Lane and Bluehills Lane lead off into the farmland round about.
How the van gets to Lower Cumberworth
Cumberworth Lane leaves the A636 Wakefield Road in Denby Dale and runs to the village. From Bradford the van comes through Huddersfield and down the A629 to Shepley Lane Head, then east along the A635 Barnsley Road to Denby Dale. Shelley Woodhouse Lane is another way in, on the country side of the village.
