Killingbeck: what to know before moving day
The name comes from the Killingbeck family, the historic landowners. Their 18th-century hall became the first building of Killingbeck Hospital, which closed in 1997, and the newest housing in the district is on that hospital site, reached by Oak Tree Lane. On new-build streets like these, check whether parking bays are allocated and send the house number, since a satnav may not be up to date with a new road; the nearest older street helps too.
North of York Road is Killingbeck Fields, a Local Nature Reserve of fields and woodland, with the retail park and its Asda superstore and the Acorn business park just beyond. Killingbeck Cemetery, opened in 1895 for Leeds's Roman Catholics, comes next, then older housing on Lyme Chase and The Oval estate up to Foundry Road. Seacroft Hospital, with its Grade II listed clock tower, faces them across York Road, and past Foundry Lane are the police and fire stations and the Parklands estate.
How the van gets to Killingbeck
York Road is the whole story here: the A64 runs out of Leeds city centre through Killingbeck towards Seacroft and York. From Bradford, the A647 takes the van to the Armley Gyratory and the Inner Ring Road links it to York Road; Wykebeck Valley Road and Oak Tree Lane lead off it into the housing.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 30 to 40 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

There is no hard line. They share a council ward, Killingbeck & Seacroft, and the Parklands estate at the eastern end is sometimes counted as Seacroft. Killingbeck proper is roughly the stretch along York Road from Wykebeck Valley Road to Foundry Road, with the hospital site housing behind it.
