Halton Moor: what to know before moving day
Before the 1930s this was open land between Osmondthorpe and the older village of Halton. The estate was built as a low-density garden suburb for families moved out of inner-city slum clearances, and most houses are red brick semis, with some terraces and detached homes. Coronation Parade is the central boulevard, running east to west, and the other roads follow the contours of the hill from north to south, with open green space in the middle.
Two things change how a move here is planned. Speed cushions, humps, chicanes and some closed-off roads were added to calm traffic, so the van may need to come round the long way to reach your door; give the exact address and it will be routed before setting off. And the one high-rise left, Lakeland Court, was refurbished for about 3 million pounds after the other two towers were pulled down, so for a flat there say which floor you are on. The Sutton Park estate, built by the William Sutton Housing Trust, forms the northern part of Halton Moor.
How the van gets to Halton Moor
From Bradford, the A647 and the Leeds Inner Ring Road lead to York Road, the A64, which passes to the north through Killingbeck. Halton Moor Road links the estate with Osmondthorpe on the west, Coronation Parade and Neville Road carry traffic through it, and Selby Road in Halton lies just to the east.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 30 to 45 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
