Halton: what to know before moving day
Halton is in the Domesday Book as Halletun, 'the estate in a corner of land'. It grew into a suburb in the years just before and after the Second World War, and almost three-quarters of the homes are semi-detached or detached, most of them owner-occupied. For a house with a drive, say whether the van can back onto it or should wait on the road, and mention anything like a low garage or a narrow side path.
Selby Road is where the shops are, among them a Lidl and a Tesco Express, and The Woodman is the pub that remains after the Irwin Arms and the Travellers Rest were demolished. St Wilfrid's Church, Grade II* listed, was built in 1939 in the Arts and Crafts style by A. Randall Wells, with work by Eric Gill inside. The primary school is Templenewsam Halton, and Primrose Valley Park covers the site of the old Killingbeck colliery. The part called Halton Deans takes its name from an Old English word for valley.
How the van gets to Halton
Selby Road, numbered the B6159 on the map, carries the old Leeds to Selby route through Halton. The A63 dual carriageway is close by, and York Road, the A64, is a short way north. From Bradford the van comes in on the A647, crosses Leeds on the Inner Ring Road and heads out east on York Road.

Halton is in the Temple Newsam ward of Leeds City Council, but the Temple Newsam house and parkland are a separate place, lying directly south of Halton. For a move, give your street and the LS15 postcode rather than 'Temple Newsam'.
Does Halton have its own railway station?
No. Cross Gates, the next district to the north, has a station on the Selby line. For a move, the roads that matter are Selby Road and York Road.
