Richmond Hill: what to know before moving day

Upper Accommodation Road is the historic spine of Richmond Hill, older buildings on its west side and newer ones to the east, and the 1902 Leeds Industrial Co-operative building stands where it meets East Park Road. A back-to-back shares its rear wall with the house behind, so the front wall has the only door. On those streets every box, bed and wardrobe comes out of the front door, and the van has to stop on the street outside, so tell us whether yours is a back-to-back or a through terrace.

St Saviour's, the Grade I listed Anglican church of 1845, stands at the top of the hill, with the old Mount St Mary's Church, closed in 1989, nearby; Mount St Mary's Catholic High School is on Ellerby Road. Towards Quarry Hill, the 1950s Saxton Gardens estate has been rebuilt by Urban Splash as 410 homes with allotments and a large shared garden. The medical centre and dental practice are on East Park Road, and the railway east to York and Selby cuts through the district.

How the van gets to Richmond Hill

York Road, the A64, runs along the northern foot of the hill, and Upper Accommodation Road climbs off it. From Bradford that means the A647 into Leeds, the Inner Ring Road round the north of the centre, then out on York Road. If the motorways are clearer, take the M62 and M621 to the A61, which follows the east side of the city centre to the same junctions.

The drive from Bradford is roughly 25 to 40 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
