Hunslet: what to know before moving day
In 1968 the council built Hunslet Grange, known as the Leek Street Flats: 350 flats and maisonettes with walkways in the sky. They were demolished from 1983 and replaced with low-rise council housing in the late 1980s, with private houses added in the 1990s and 2000s; Hunslet Green, a public space, now covers much of that ground. Around Church Street, the old centre known as Penny Hill, are the Longroyd streets and the Morrisons in the Penny Hill Centre. The spire of St Mary's, from 1864, is the tallest in Leeds.
Along the river the picture changes: the land around Clarence Dock and the River Aire has filled with modern riverside flats, and Hunslet is part of the Leeds South Bank regeneration. For a flat, check the parking or loading arrangements with the building and send the details when you book.
How the van gets to Hunslet
The M621 loop links the M62 and the M1 round the south of the city centre. From Bradford the M606 joins the M62 at junction 26, which leads to the M621. In Hunslet itself, Church Street, Hillidge Road and Beza Street are the main local roads.
