Moving in Keld Houses: what to know first
Keld Houses is a short string of farms and cottages on the B6265, a two-lane road with no pavement, at 40 mph past the houses and 60 mph further west. Homes sit back from the road on their own tracks and yards: Lily Green, High Far Side, Far Side, Low Far Side and Prim Gap Farm are the names to give. Since there is no side street to stop in, tell us where the van can pull off the road at your property.
Names here have shifted over time. The house now called High View, postcode HG3 5JL, was Prim Gap on the 1854 map, and Prim Gap Farm is a separate group a couple of hundred metres to the west. The ground all round is old lead workings, with shafts and old mine sites, so keep to made tracks. The village of Greenhow, with St Mary's Church, is about a kilometre east along the same road.
Keld Houses: the local picture
This is old lead-mining country, with old workings beside the road and the North Rakes and Golden Fleece mines, a shaft and the North Rakes Dam on the moor around it. The Keld Well is a pond near the houses, and Gill Beck and Keld Dike run close by. Lily Green, Prim Gap Farm, High Far Side and High View are the homes and farms around it.
The hamlet sits right on a boundary. Keld Houses sits just inside Appletreewick parish and the Yorkshire Dales National Park, while Greenhow village to the east is in Bewerley. Greenhow's own history notes that the western end of the village, past Kell Dyke, already falls in Appletreewick. Either way the council is North Yorkshire Council.
How the van gets to Keld Houses
From Bradford the van climbs from the A59 up Meagill Lane and Greenhow Hill Road, crosses to Sandy Gate, Redlish Road and Duck Street Lane, and joins the B6265 at Greenhow, then turns west along Hebden Road for about a kilometre. Ravenstone Moor and Ravenstone Crag are close by.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 50 to 60 minutes. That is an estimate, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Frequently asked questions: man with a van in Keld Houses
Which side of the National Park line is Keld Houses on?
Just inside it: the park boundary runs between Keld Houses and Greenhow village, which is outside it. For a move the difference is only in the address, but it helps to know which side of the line you are on.
My address says High View. Is that the same as Prim Gap?
Yes: High View, HG3 5JL, has Prim Gap as its old name, from the 1854 Ordnance Survey sheet. Prim Gap Farm, a couple of hundred metres west, is a separate property, so give the house name exactly as it appears on your paperwork.
Is Keld Houses nearer Pateley Bridge or Grassington?
Pateley Bridge, by a little: about 4 miles east down Greenhow Hill against about 6.5 miles west to Grassington, both on the B6265. The post town for HG3 is Harrogate, and the council is North Yorkshire Council.
