Chellow Grange: what to know before moving day
The name goes back to the monks. The manor of Chellow Grange belonged to the abbey of St Germain at Selby, passed to the Bolling family after the Dissolution, and had mining and smelting rights granted around it in the 12th century. Its manor house has been the clubhouse of West Bradford Golf Club since 1928 and is Grade II listed; the older part is gritstone, the later part sandstone. The golf course, 18 holes, has its address on Chellow Grange Road.
The streets are grouped off that one road: Masefield Avenue, Crellowfield Court, Hazlewood Road, Aanisah Avenue and Brantwood Drive all connect to it. To the south the land drops to Chellow Dene, where the upper reservoir was finished in 1844 and the lower in 1851; both stopped supplying drinking water in 1975 and now belong to Bradford Council. Plans published in early 2026 propose a 300-home estate on the farmland south of the reservoirs, so expect building traffic if that goes ahead.
How the van gets to Chellow Grange
From the city, follow Toller Lane and then Haworth Road, the B6144, west past Heaton. Chellow Grange Road turns off Haworth Road on the south side near the point where the speed limit changes from 30 to 40 mph. Coming the other way, from the Sandy Lane side, the turn is on your right, close to where the limit drops from 40 to 30 mph.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 15 to 25 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
