Bolton Woods: what to know before moving day
The centre of Bolton Woods is compact. The war memorial, the community centre, Bolton Woods Park and the New Vic pub are all within a hundred metres or so of the junction of Stanley Road, Livingstone Road and Bolton Hall Road, with the social club a little further up. Short streets such as Bute Street, Walter Street, Shann Street, Montrose Street and Burley Street lead off, and Lang Lane is a service road. If you live on one of the side streets, tell the driver which of the main three it comes off.
Bolton Woods Quarry, a large stone quarry near Gaisby, is still worked. Nearer the main road, the King George V Memorial Playing Fields and the Aldi near Canal Road are useful markers, and on the far side of Canal Road, towards Frizinghall Road, stand Frizley Old Hall, of 1727, and Frizingley Hall, both Grade II* listed.
How the van gets to Bolton Woods
Canal Road, the A6037, runs along the valley between Bradford and Shipley at 40 mph. Turn off it onto Stanley Road, which leads straight into Bolton Woods, or onto Gaisby Lane, which runs from Canal Road past Owlet to Wrose Road. Both bring you to the same few streets.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 10 to 20 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
