Baildon Moor: what to know before moving day
The moor has been used for a very long time. Its gritstone outcrops carry prehistoric cup and ring marks, a worn bank called Soldier's Trench is the remains of an Iron Age settlement, and old bell pits show where coal was dug from shallow seams. On the Shipley Glen side, Bracken Hall Countryside Centre, a free children's museum in an 1890s gritstone farmhouse, is on Glen Road. How the van gets to Baildon Moor
Glen Road is the road over the top. It starts at the head of Prod Lane and Lucy Hall Drive above Saltaire, runs past Shipley Glen and Bracken Hall, then climbs north across the moor to meet Bingley Road and Glovershaw Lane. On the stretch by the glen it is unlit, has no pavement and carries a 50 mph limit, so a van parked on the verge needs care.
