Shipley Glen: what to know before moving day
The glen has drawn visitors for well over a century. The Shipley Glen Tramway, a cable funicular opened in 1895, carries passengers up through Walker Wood from near Saltaire towards the old pleasure grounds by Prod Lane; volunteers run it for a charitable trust. The fairground that once stood there has gone, and private houses were built on its site in 2015 and 2016.
Along the ridge the buildings are older and farther apart. Bracken Hall Farmhouse, late 17th or early 18th century with some of its timber framing inside, and Trench Farmhouse, a mid 17th-century house with sculpted finials, are both listed, and Bracken Hall Countryside Centre, a free museum, is on Glen Road. Lode Pit Lane, past Sheriff Farm, heads off towards Eldwick. For a house up a private drive off Glen Road, a photo of the approach is worth sending.
How the van gets to Shipley Glen
Glen Road is the road along the top. From the Baildon end it starts at Prod Lane and Lucy Hall Drive and runs past the glen with no pavement, no street lights and a 50 mph limit, then turns north across Baildon Moor. Lode Pit Lane links it with Saltaire Road and Sheriff Lane on the Eldwick side. Stopping on the verge of a fast unlit road needs care, so say where the drive or lay-by is.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 20 to 30 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Not Shipley, despite the name. A postcode on the Bingley side, BD16 3LR, is in Bingley parish and the Bingley East ward, while BD17 5EA, a little further along Glen Road, is in Baildon. Check the postcode on the address before booking.
Can the van use the tramway to reach a house?
No. The tramway is a passenger funicular through Walker Wood, not a road. Houses at the top are reached by Glen Road or Lode Pit Lane.
