Wooldale: what to know before moving day
On Wooldale Road, Nos. 46 and 48 carry a dated plaque of 1691, No. 43 dates from 1698, and Wooldale Hall has a rear wing of 1714. Between them are more listed pairs and single houses from the 17th and 18th centuries, some rendered and some in bare stone, and No. 69 rises to three storeys. On South Lane, Nos. 1 to 5 are three-storey houses of the early 19th century and Nos. 15 to 21 a late 18th-century terrace of four.
The village has its own shop history: the Wooldale Co-operative Society, founded in 1886, ran stores in Wooldale, New Mill and Thongsbridge until Central England Co-operative took it over in 2017, and the Co-op Food is still in the village. The Wooldale Arms, the Methodist church of about 1830 with a listed K6 telephone box outside, the recreation ground and the community centre are all in the village. Newer homes are on Pell Lane, Orchard Place, Royds Avenue and Kirkroyds Lane. With so many old stone houses on Wooldale Road, send a photo of the front door if furniture has to go through it.
How the van gets to Wooldale
Wooldale Road is the main street through the village. At the foot of the hill, the A635 New Mill Road runs between Holmfirth and New Mill, where it crosses the A616 from Huddersfield. From Bradford the van comes by way of Huddersfield and the A616 through Brockholes and Thongsbridge, then up into the village from the A635.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 40 to 50 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Yes. Wooldale was a township of Kirkburton parish and then a civil parish of its own from 1866 until 1921, when it was merged with Holmfirth. Today it is a village in the Holme Valley parish with an HD9 postcode.
