Upper Hopton: what to know before moving day
Several of the older buildings are listed. Hopton Hall, off Hopton Hall Lane, is a 16th-century house with timber-framed gables and an H-shaped plan, and the aisled barn at Hall Farm beside it is timber framed inside a 19th-century stone casing. St John's Church went up in 1846 to a Perpendicular design by Ignatius Bonomi and Cory. Further down, 22 to 34 North Gate is an early 19th-century row of stone cottages with mullioned windows, and 124 and 126 Hopton Lane are late 18th-century houses with a barn attached.
Later housing fills the closes off Hopton Lane and Jackroyd Lane: Hopton Drive, Chiltern Drive, Cheviot Way, Top Meadow and Hill Top Crescent among them. The Travellers Rest is on Hopton Lane, the Upper Hopton Club is on Jackroyd Lane, and the Sutcliffe Memorial Ground is at the edge of the houses. If you are in one of the older cottages, measure the front door and the largest piece of furniture before the day and send both figures.
How the van gets to Upper Hopton
From Bradford the M606 and M62 bring the van to the A644, and the OSRM route then turns up Wood Lane and Northgate to Hopton Lane and finishes on Jackroyd Lane. Budget roughly 25 to 35 minutes from Bradford for that. The B6118, here called Bellstring Lane, runs along the southern side of the village.
