Streethouse: what to know before moving day
Whinney Lane is the main street, with the post office, the primary school and the war memorial on it, and the Pontefract line passes close by. Around it are streets such as George Street, Belmont Street and Netheroyd, and closes such as Whitwell Main, Whitwell Drive and Thistle Hill Drive. Went Beck runs close by, and there is a Methodist church, a park with a children's playground and Streethouse Cricket Club, formed in 1962.
The village has had regeneration money and private housebuilding in recent years; the old working men's club was demolished and houses built on its site. Sharlston Country Park borders the village on land that was surface-mined after Sharlston Colliery closed. Secondary pupils travel to Featherstone, Crofton or Normanton. On a new-build close with shared drives, tell the van where it can wait without blocking a neighbour.
How the van gets to Streethouse
From M62 junction 31 the A655 heads towards Normanton, and Streethouse lies south-east of the town. Whinney Lane and Mill Lane are the village's through roads, and the A645 Wakefield Road, between Wakefield and Featherstone, passes close by. The Glasshoughton link road has improved access towards Castleford and Wakefield.

When did Streethouse get its station back?
The present station opened on 12 May 1992, when the line between Wakefield and Pontefract reopened to passengers. The original station of 1848 stood a little towards Wakefield. Trains run hourly on weekdays and Saturdays to Leeds via Wakefield and to Knottingley, with a two-hourly Sunday service.
Does Streethouse share a parish with Sharlston?
No. Streethouse is in Featherstone parish, although it shares the Featherstone ward with Sharlston, and the old Sharlston Colliery land, now Sharlston Country Park, lies next to it.
