Stourton: what to know before moving day
Until the 1970s Stourton was a village in Rothwell Urban District with its own churches and pubs. From then on the housing was cleared for motorways and industry, and by 1990 little was left except the war memorial to the men of Stourton and Thwaitegate, moved to a site given by Waddingtons in about 1973. So most addresses here are units and depots rather than houses: the Freightliner Leeds Terminal, the Leeds Mail Centre and trade counters such as Screwfix and Howdens are all on the map.
Because of that, the building name or unit number matters more than the street. The main roads are Pontefract Road (the B6481), Wakefield Road and Thwaite Gate on the A639, and Skelton Grange Road runs out towards the site of the old Skelton Grange power station, demolished in 1995, whose substation is still in use. Thwaite Mills by the river is a useful landmark. If you are collecting from a depot, check its loading times and whether a van needs to book a bay.
How the van gets to Stourton
From Bradford the M62 and the M621 bring the van straight here: the M621 ends by merging with the M1 at Stourton, and Stourton Park and Ride is at M621 junction 7. The A61 (Wakefield Road and the Stourton Interchange) and the A639 cross the area, and the B6481 runs south from Stourton to Rothwell Haigh.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 25 to 40 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Why can I not find Stourton village on the map?
Because it was demolished. The houses, churches and pubs were cleared from the 1970s for the motorways and industrial estates, and St Andrew's Church on Pontefract Road went in about 1973. The war memorial is the main survivor. The name now covers the industrial area.
