South Kirkby: what to know before moving day
The foundations and part of the walls of All Saints' Church date from the original settlement, and it is the parish's one Grade I listed building; the older streets near it include Church View, Church Drive, Towngate and Chapel Lane. Hague Hall was demolished in 1910 because of mining subsidence, but the coach house and dovecote at Hague Hall Farm are listed. At its largest the colliery employed about 3,000 people, nearly all housed in South Kirkby and Moorthorpe.
White Apron Street and Barnsley Road carry the B6422 past the church, with the town hall and a miners' memorial on Stockingate. Northfield Lane has the primary school and the parish council field, and the housing spreads over Northfield Avenue, Grove Avenue, Park Avenue and the Hague Park streets. Langthwaite Green industrial estate is off Langthwaite Road.
How the van gets to South Kirkby
The B6422 is the through road: as Hemsworth Road it comes in from Hemsworth to the north-west, and as Barnsley Road and White Apron Street it runs on to South Elmsall. From Bradford the van heads for Wakefield and then down through Hemsworth.

Moorthorpe or South Elmsall: which station serves South Kirkby?
Two stations about a mile apart serve the town. Moorthorpe, on the Leeds to Sheffield line, and South Elmsall, on the Doncaster to Leeds line, each have an hourly service, which together give a half-hourly service to Leeds. The Hemsworth and South Kirkby station on the Hull and Barnsley line closed in the 1930s.
