Scholes (Holmfirth): what to know before moving day
Scholes was a civil parish of its own from 1894, formed from parts of Wooldale, Fulstone and Hepworth, until it was merged into Holmfirth in 1938. The village school, first built in 1908 and extended in 1976 and 1986, takes about 213 pupils, and the cricket club plays in the Huddersfield League. Roy Castle, the Record Breakers presenter, was born here.
The main streets are Scholes Road, St George's Road, Paris Road and Sandy Gate, with Towngate and Chapelgate at the old core and Scholes Moor Road heading up onto the moor. Paris is a small hamlet on the edge of the village, and residential streets such as Moorlands, Ryefield and Wickleden Gate sit off the main roads. Scholes Village Store, which has the post office, the Boot and Shoe Inn and the Methodist church make good landmarks.
How the van gets to Scholes (Holmfirth)
From Bradford the van comes by the M606 and M62, round Huddersfield and up the A616 to New Mill. The A616 then continues as Sheffield Road towards Scholes; turn off by Bank Street onto Scholes Road, then Park Side and St George's Road into the village.
