New Mill: what to know before moving day
The shops are all at the crossroads: a post office, the Co-op, which began as the Wooldale Co-operative Society, two pharmacies and an Indian restaurant, with a car park on Holmfirth Road. The village centre used to sit a little further east, near Christ Church on Sude Hill, and the streets there are Sude Hill and Upper Sude Hill.
New Mill's mills shaped its housing. Moorhouse and Brook's mill on Greenhill Bank Road has been demolished and replaced by a housing development, while Bower and Roebuck still weave cloth in the valley just off Sheffield Road. Other residential roads include Royds Avenue, Moorcroft Park Drive, Bellgreave Avenue and Birchwood Park. From 1895 to 1938 New Mill was an urban district of its own, covering Fulstone, Hepworth and Scholes. The village also has a male voice choir, founded in 1991.
How the van gets to New Mill
New Mill sits on the A616 itself: from Bradford the van takes the M606 and M62 round Huddersfield, then the A616 all the way, arriving as Huddersfield Road at the crossroads. From there the A635 Penistone Road leads east to Sude Hill and Fulstone Hall Lane, and the A635 Holmfirth Road runs west.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 40 to 50 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
