Jackson Bridge: what to know before moving day
For most of its history the village was dominated by Dobroyd Mills, which wove fine worsted cloth for export and later housed yarn spinners and small firms. After standing derelict, the mill complex was demolished in 2020, and its site is now mapped as cleared land. The countryside around is mainly dairy and sheep farming.
Bank Street and Hepworth Road form the middle of the village, with East Street, South View and Tenter Hill off them and Staley Royd Lane and Scar Hole Lane heading out. Jackson Bridge has two pubs, the White Horse and the Red Lion, as well as a working men's club and a crown green bowling club. One of the pubs appeared in Last of the Summer Wine, with Clegg's house behind it. If your house is on one of the short side streets, let us know where a long van can wait.
How the van gets to Jackson Bridge
From Bradford, drive by the M606 and M62 round Huddersfield, then up the A616 through the Holme Valley to New Mill, where it becomes Sheffield Road. Bank Street leaves it for Jackson Bridge, and Hepworth Road carries on through the village towards Hepworth.

The mills closed after a long textile history and a later spell as small business units. The buildings stood derelict for a time and were demolished in 2020. If you are giving directions, use Bank Street or the pubs rather than the mill.
