Hepworth: what to know before moving day
The old village runs along Towngate, Butt Lane and Upper Gate, with Chapel Bank, Barracks Fold and Maingate close by. The Butchers Arms, at the centre of village life, and Holy Trinity, consecrated in 1863, are the usual landmarks. Hepworth grew in the 1980s and 1990s with new housing and small businesses, and that newer building is on roads such as Hepworth Crescent, Farfield Avenue and Farfield Drive, Hill Side Avenue and Carr View Road.
Barracks Fold has a place in local history: during the plague of 1665 and 1666 the village was split in two there, and thirteen trees by the football pitch remember the thirteen who died. The end of the plague is still marked by Hepworth Feast on the last Monday of June, with a procession to Scholes and back and stalls on the main street. Hepworth United play at Far Lane, and the village school and the recreation ground are nearby.
How the van gets to Hepworth
Head for Huddersfield by the M606 and M62, then up the A616 to New Mill and on along Sheffield Road. Turn off at Bank Street for Hepworth Road, which leads to Butt Lane and Towngate in the village. Barnside Lane and Foster Place Lane lead out to the farms beyond.

Is there a day to avoid for a move in Hepworth?
The last Monday in June is Hepworth Feast, when there are stalls on the main street and a procession to Scholes and back in the afternoon. A move that day is possible, but a different date keeps the van clear of the crowds.
Is the Butchers Arms really the Last of the Summer Wine pub?
Much of the filming in Hepworth centred on the Butchers Arms, which is why it is the village's best known building. It is also a simple landmark to give if you live near the middle of the village.
