Hade Edge: what to know before moving day
Dunford Road, part of the B6106, and Greave Road are the two streets that shape the village; the old Co-op stood on the corner where they meet. The newer housing is on closes off them, such as Abbey Close, Green Abbey, Hopefield Court, Bayfield Close and Boshaw View. The Methodist church, the village hall and Hade Edge AFC's ground are all off Dunford Road, the school is Hade Edge Junior, Infant and Nursery, and the Hade Edge Band, formed in 1908, opened its current band room in 2007.
Quarrying built the place: by 1861 Magnum Bonum Quarry employed more than 60 people, cutting stone and flagstones for railway platforms. Longley Farm, the dairy started in the village by the Dickinson brothers in 1948, still makes cheese and yoghurt on its site here, and in 1986 it put up Britain's first commercial wind turbine. Boshaw Whams and Holme Styes reservoirs are close by, with the Huddersfield Sailing Club and The Boshaw Trout pub.
How the van gets to Hade Edge
From Bradford the van reaches Holmfirth by way of Huddersfield and the A616, then leaves the centre on the A635 and turns onto the B6106 Dunford Road, which runs south to Hade Edge. Greave Road leads into the middle of the village. Beyond it the B6106 carries on south as Penistone Road.
