Moving in Fulstone: what to know first
Fulstone has no estate streets. The homes are farmhouses, barns and cottages on Far Well Lane, Fulstone Road, Fulstone Hall Lane and White Ley Bank, several of them listed, and many stand behind a gate or across a yard. If there is room in the yard the van loads there; if not, it waits on the lane. Tell us which it will be, and how far it is from the gate to your door.
Every way in is a climb, because the hamlet is on a hilltop between New Mill and Stocksmoor. Far Well Lane crosses a small bridge, White Ley Bank has no street lights, and farm tracks and field gates open off all of the lanes, so a postcode alone can leave a driver at the wrong gate. Give the house name and a landmark nearby, such as the old telephone box.
Fulstone: the local picture
The name is old: Domesday recorded it as Fugelestun, Fugol's farm. For centuries Fulstone was a township of Kirkburton parish, became a civil parish in 1866 and went into New Mill Urban District in 1895, then into Holmfirth in 1938. What survives is farm building. Moor View Farmhouse is 17th or early 18th century with a barn of the 18th century beside it, West Royd Farmhouse is late 18th century, and 12 White Ley Bank was once a pair of houses. All four are listed, with mullioned windows and stone slate roofs.
Fulstone once had a Methodist church, and it is now a private house. The red telephone box is kept as a book swap called The Telephone Exchange, and Croft Bottom Farm and Wood End Wood are close by. White Ley Bank is only about 2.5 metres wide with no lane markings, so a long van needs a clear run and a place to stop that is agreed in advance.
How the van gets to Fulstone
Far Well Lane and Fulstone Road connect the hamlet with Stocksmoor to the north. The likely route from Bradford follows the M606 and M62, the A629 Penistone Road south of Huddersfield, then Thunder Bridge Lane, Birks Lane and Station Road through Stocksmoor before climbing Fulstone Road, roughly 35 to 50 minutes in all. Fulstone Hall Lane runs south towards the A635.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 35 to 50 minutes. That is an estimate, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Fulstone Hall Lane from New Mill or Fulstone Road from Stocksmoor, depending on where your house is. White Ley Bank is the narrowest, so it is used only when your door is on it.
