Moorhead (Shipley): what to know before moving day
Moorhead was part of High Moor, the rough common that ran from the Saltaire roundabout up towards New Brighton and was too steep and rocky to farm. In 1870 the Countess of Rosse sold a tranche of it to build five streets of terraces, and middle-class houses followed; the pub on the Saltaire junction that bears her name dates from then. The St Peter's bowling green and tennis courts, Fairmount bowling club and Saltaire Primary School help pinpoint an address, and Northcliffe Park and its woods are close by.
How the van gets to Moorhead (Shipley)
The A650 Bingley Road and the A657 Saltaire Road meet at the old Saltaire roundabout, now a junction with traffic lights, and Moorhead Lane leaves that junction heading south. Saltaire Road is 20 mph and the A650 30 mph here. At its top, Moorhead Lane meets High Bank Lane, which continues towards Cottingley Cliffe Road and Nab Wood.
