Nab Wood: what to know before moving day
Nab Wood was one of the districts where middle-class houses were built as Shipley grew in the 19th century. The street names follow the place: Nab Wood Drive is the long spine running north from Cottingley Cliffe Road, with Nab Wood Road, Nab Wood Terrace, Nab Wood Place, Nab Wood Mount, Nab Wood Grove and Nab Wood Crescent off it, plus Bankfield Road, the Glenview streets and Bank Crest Rise. With so many streets sharing the Nab Wood name, the house number and full street name matter more than usual.
The oldest buildings are at New Close Farm off New Close Road: a 17th-century farmhouse and a timber-framed barn, encased in stone, listed Grade II*. North of the houses, beside the A650, are Nab Wood Cemetery and Crematorium and the Yorkshire Clinic; Dixons Cottingley Academy, which opened as Nab Wood Grammar School, is close by, and so are Northcliffe and Shay Grange golf courses.
How the van gets to Nab Wood
From Bradford the A650 runs out through Shipley and Saltaire; west of the Saltaire junction it passes through Nab Wood, where the Bradford-bound side has a bus lane. At its northern end, Nab Wood Drive connects to Nab Lane and Ashfield Road, the streets towards the A650. From the south, Cottingley Cliffe Road, the B6269, is a 40 mph road that joins Nab Wood Drive and Stoney Ridge Road.
