Mickletown: what to know before moving day
Main Street and Pinfold Lane form the spine. Along them are the Mickletown Post Office and General Store, the Commercial pub with its car park, Methley Methodist Church and St Margaret's church hall, with Pinfold Surgery, the library and the community centre a few steps away. Methley Primary School, the new village school that the Kaiser Chiefs opened in January 2006, is also in Mickletown.
Beyond the houses the ground falls to the Aire. Mickletown Ings is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, the RSPB's St Aidan's reserve lies beyond the river, and the Leeds Country Way and the Trans Pennine Trail both pass through. Pit Lane, part of which is now mapped as a cycle route, recalls the mining past: Methley once had five collieries. Side streets include St Margarets Avenue, Hicks Lane, Taylor Grove and Ings View.
How the van gets to Mickletown
Church Lane and Mickletown Road lead east out of Methley into Mickletown, meeting Savile Road and Main Street; Pinfold Lane and Lower Mickletown carry on from Main Street. To reach Methley in the first place the van uses the A639, which comes in from Oulton after crossing the A642 there, the road up from junction 30 of the M62.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 30 to 45 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
