Moving in Methley Lanes: what to know first
The houses face Newmarket Lane, the B6135, which is lit, with 40 and 50 mph stretches, and carries lorries to the Headways sheds and Amazon DSA6. There are no side streets, so everything loads from a drive or from the old section of the lane, and the slot is best planned around that through traffic. A house reached across fields or by a footpath, such as the dirt track called Doggers path, should be mentioned when you book.
Methley Lanes: the local picture
The odd postcode has a history. The land south and west of the M62, including the hamlets of Newmarket and Scholey Hill, was part of Methley until it passed to Wakefield in the 1990s. The border is still close: LS26 9DR by the houses is a Wakefield postcode, while LS26 9DL, a few hundred metres east along the lane, is in the Leeds ward of Kippax and Methley.
A handful of houses stand on the south side of Newmarket Lane, with fields behind and a bus stop called Newmarket Lane The Lanes. The neighbours are mostly large sheds: the Wakefield Hub estate on Headways, Amazon DSA6, Newcold and Phoenix Healthcare Distribution. Bottom Boat Road, now only a footpath and track, runs south from the houses to the Castleford Greenway, the Trans Pennine Trail and the River Calder.
Part of the old line of Newmarket Lane near the Headways roundabout is now a cul-de-sac and a footway, so check which stretch your door is on before the day. A house on the main road may need the van to stop in a drive rather than on the carriageway, because this is the through road to the warehouses.
How the van gets to Methley Lanes
Leave the M62 at junction 30, the Rothwell Interchange, and the B6135 Newmarket Lane turns off the A642 Aberford Road beside the junction. Heading east, it passes the Headways roundabout for the Wakefield Hub and reaches the houses before the lane goes under the motorway towards Methley, with Hungate Lane branching off at the far end.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 25 to 40 minutes. That is an estimate, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Frequently asked questions: man with a van in Methley Lanes
My postcode is LS26. Do I book as Leeds or Wakefield?
Either way the price is fixed before we set off, but the council is Wakefield: Methley Lanes is in Wakefield's Stanley and Outwood East ward even though Royal Mail files it under LS26. The village of Methley itself, north of the motorway, stays in Leeds.
Can the van stop outside a house on Newmarket Lane?
Usually a drive or the old cul-de-sac section is better than the main road, which is the through route to the warehouse estate. Send a photo of the frontage and we will say where the van will wait, and plan the carry into the fixed price.
Is the Trans Pennine Trail close to Methley Lanes?
Yes. Bottom Boat Road, now only a track and footpath, runs south from the houses to the Castleford Greenway, the Trans Pennine Trail and the River Calder. It is not a road for the van, which always arrives by Newmarket Lane.
