Knowl: what to know before moving day
Knowl Park, with its skate park, is the obvious landmark. On Knowl Road stands Knowl House, the Walker family's mansion: the painter Hilda Walker lived there until the 1930s, the family gave it to the people of Mirfield in 1943, and Kirklees Council sold it in 2013. Thorpe Cottage, a single-storey stone cottage said to have once been a school, is Grade II listed.
Also on or near Knowl Road are the Knowl Club, Zion Baptist Church and the old Knowl Methodist burial ground, and The Knowl has a newsagent and an off licence. Streets run from Back Knowl Road, Shaw Street and Brown Street to West Royd Avenue, Water Royd Drive, Fox Royd Avenue and Beechwood Road, and there is a Co-op food store in the area.
How the van gets to Knowl
The OSRM route turns off the A644 in the centre of Mirfield onto Nettleton Road for Knowl, roughly 20 to 35 minutes from Bradford by the M606 and M62. Knowl Road and Crowlees Road are the other ways in from the shops, and Water Royd Lane joins from the Kitson Hill side.
