Hillhouse: what to know before moving day
On Bradford Road, numbers 66 to 86 form a listed mid-19th-century stone terrace, each house with a doorway framed by Tuscan pilasters, and some with basements. Behind it run side streets such as Honoria Street, Eleanor Street and Clara Street, where the former church hall of Hillhouse United Reformed Church is listed. The listed Huddersfield Railway Viaduct and the Hillhouse sidings cross the district, and the Huddersfield Broad Canal runs along its eastern edge.
Great Northern Street and Leeds Road hold the Great Northern and Phoenix retail parks and a row of builders' and trade merchants, with stores such as DFS, Dunelm and The Range. Collecting from one of them for a home elsewhere is booked like any other job, with a fixed price agreed before setting off. Shearing Cross is the local name for the part of Hillhouse near Leeds Road.
How the van gets to Hillhouse
Hillhouse Lane is the cross link: it runs from the A641 Bradford Road to the A62 Leeds Road, with Great Northern Street and Halifax Old Road off it. The A641 arrives from the Bradford side and meets Castlegate, the ring road, at the town end, and the A62 Leeds Road comes in from Bradley and Cooper Bridge.
