Hensall: what to know before moving day
Main Street, Field Lane and Finkle Street form a loop at the heart of the village, with the post office and store and the Methodist church. Bird Lane leads to the sports field used by the cricket and football clubs. Station Road runs out to Weeland Road, passing Hensall station and the Railway Tavern, and across the crossroads Church Lane has St Paul's Church, commissioned by Viscount Downe in 1843 and Grade II* listed, and the village school.
Beyond the core, Main Street becomes Wand Lane to the north-west, where Dene Close is a group of 1950s homes. Half a mile west along Weeland Road is Eggborough Ings, a small cluster of houses joined to Wand Lane and the village by Hazel Old Lane. The Aire flooded parts of the village in 2000; the defences were then improved and held in the floods of winter 2015.
How the van gets to Hensall
The A645, known in the village as Weeland Road, is the main road in. It meets the A19 a mile west of Hensall, and the A19 meets junction 34 of the M62 just south-west of the village, which is the way to and from Bradford.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 45 to 60 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
